What We Ask of Caregivers
Youth-led Participation
At YES Manitoba, we believe that meaningful growth happens when youth are given opportunities to develop confidence, independence, and employment readiness through real-world practice.
Our program is designed to simulate many aspects of a working environment in a safe and supportive setting. To achieve this, participants are encouraged to actively engage in services on their own by communicating directly with staff, answering questions for themselves, expressing their perspectives, and demonstrating their skills and abilities.
Information for Parents, Caregivers, Social Workers, and Other Supports
We recognize and value the important role that parents, caregivers, social workers, and other support people play in a young person’s success. Your encouragement and guidance are often essential to helping youth achieve their goals.
As part of our employment-focused approach, we ask that support persons allow youth to take the lead whenever possible during appointments, workshops, and program activities. This includes:
-
- Answering questions independently.
- Communicating directly with staff.
- Sharing their own goals, experiences, and perspectives.
- Managing appointments and program participation.
- Practicing professional communication and self-advocacy skills.
While support persons are welcome to provide encouragement and assistance when needed, youth benefit most when they are given opportunities to speak for themselves and take an active role in their own development.
This approach helps our staff provide accurate feedback, identify appropriate supports, and create opportunities for participants to build the confidence and independence necessary for future employment success.
