Background:
The Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre Inc. is currently seeking an individual for the position of Neighborhood Care
Helper within the Ozosunon (Ojibway for “Nest”) Program. Responsibilities would include facilitating the care
plan implementation, accessing resources and providing advocacy for children and families to enable care plans,
providing timely support and direction to the care provider, working with the Child and Family Service worker in
a team approach, and regularly monitoring the well-being of each child in care within your community site.
Develop a network of connections by being involved at the grassroots community level, become familiar with
and utilize formal/informal supports.

Qualifications:

• Post-secondary education in Human Services, Social Work, Child and Youth Care, or a related field.
• Experience working directly in the foster care or child welfare system — including experience supporting
care providers (foster parents), coordinating care for children in care, and facilitating placements.
• Strong working knowledge of Child Welfare Legislation, Standards, and Foster Home Licensing
requirements and ability to implement program policies and protocols.
• Ability to support and monitor children in care and their foster homes and relationships with biological
families.
• Experience facilitating and implementing care plans, safety plans, and providing regular follow-up.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous values, family systems, and community issues.
• Ability to work collaboratively with Child and Family Service workers, care providers, and community
partners.
• Commitment to promoting culturally safe, trauma-informed, and strength-based care practices.
• Valid Manitoba driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
• Must provide current (within the last three months) Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector
Query, Child Abuse Registry Check, and be subject to a Prior Contact Check.
